INGREDIENTS NEEDED: ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (IPA), FRAGRACES, ESSENTIAL OILS, TEXAPON, WATER AND COLOURANT.

Isopropyl alcohol is also called isopropanol or propionic acid. It is volatile and flammable, hence must be kept away from heat to prevent drying up and from fire to prevent explosion. However, it is much safer on the body, therefore used as diluent for many chemicals used for cosmetic purposes.

Fragrances are of different types and are usually oily. They can be essential oils or synthetic fragrances. But the essential oils are natural and better as air purifier because they also have very good antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effects. Combination of any two or three of them is excellent such as lemon, peppermint, tea tree, lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary etc. Two or more fragrances can be added in the preparation of air freshener depending on your desire and perception of perfume. Texapon is used as an emulsifier to aid dilution and uniform spread of the mixture of fragrances in water.

The colurants we are using are called dyes. They have better transparency and better penetrating power than pigments. They dissolve well in water, oil and alcohol.

MATERIALS NEEDED: SMALL MIXING BOWL, LONG & SHORT SPOONS, FUNNEL, SPRAY BOTTLE & MEASURING CUP.

METHOD: To prepare 1litre of air freshener, first add 2 teaspoon (10mls) each of 2-3 types of fragrances in the small separate cup and stir with the spoon. Take one scoop from the texapon with a teaspoon into the bowl and measure 100mls of IPA into it and mix vigorously till the texapon dissolves completely. Add another 400mls of IPA and the mixture of fragrance into the bowl. By now, the atmosphere would have been filled with the pleasant perfume as you continue to stir gently.

Next, put a pint of your desired color of dye whether red green blue etc in another small cup and add some water to mix. Pour it into 500mls of water and add this to increase the quantity of your air freshener mixture.

Pour into a spray bottle and it is ready for use in your apartment, offices and so on.
